HP OfficeJet 5255
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Brand new, out-of-the-box HP OfficeJet 5255 printer. During setup, following the directions on the app, encountered error code OXC4EB8004 immediately after installing the ink setup cartridges. Tried restarting, unlluggunpand plugging back in the printer. No joy.

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I suggest you remove all the cartridges and put one cartridge and check which cartridge is causing the problem.

Make sure the carriage is moving freely.

I suggest you do a Hard Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

Have a great day!

Cheers:)

@Raj1788

Thank you for the welcome! We had already tried that as well as a few other tips and tricks we found on the internet. We eventually gave up and called HP Support. They walked us through some troubleshooting and concluded that the printer is defective. HP is sending us a new unit.

Thanks again!

This is not working for me either!

Similar problem. Printer new out of box but with a slightly different error code of OXC4EB9004. Same problem otherwise. As soon as it starts up, this error code pops up. Tried the Hard Reset as described above with the same results. Any further suggestions or should I pack it up and return it for a new one?

Welcome to HP support community.

Remove the ink cartridges, and reset the printer

  1. Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.

  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  3. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

  4. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  5. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

    NOTE:

HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

  6. Turn the printer on.

  7. Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door.

  8. If you receive a prompt to print a calibration or alignment page, do so.

I hope that helps.

I tried the hard restart 3 times. The problem is that I cannot even get the cartridges installed because the carrier is too far under the plastic piece to the right side of the printer. I'm very disappointed that this is happening to a brand new, out of the box piece of equipment AND that I have to register an account in this thread so I can even comment. Fix your stuff HP, you're wasting my time

Thank you. We ended up exchanging the printer for a new one which started up just fine.
