I have a L7555 printer.  I was having trouble with "light print" so I ran the Clean Printhead utility.  After running the utility, I received an error message stating there is a problem with the Cayenne and Magenta Printheads.  The only cartridges I have ever used in the printer are genuine HP cartridges.  The cartridge generating the error message is about 2 years old.

  • Removed and reinstalled the print cartridges .. same message.
  • I tried cleaning the contacts on the cartridges .. same message.
  • Power cycle the printer (unplug from power for 30 seconds, hold down power button for 30 seconds, release the power button, wait another 30 seconds, then plug the printer back in to power).. same message.
  • Replaced the cartridge with a new, fresh one .. same message.
  •

The buttons on the printer do not respond to any presses while the error message is displayed.

I have searched online for instructions on resetting the printer to default settings when error messages can't be cleared, and have had no luck.

Suggestions on next step(s)?

Welcome to HP support community.

Make sure the ink cartridges are correctly installed

  1. Open the door to access the ink cartridges.

    Opening the cartridge cover

  2. Pull out the ink cartridge indicated by the error message.

    Removing the cartridge

  3. Align the ink cartridge with its color-coded slot, and then slide the ink cartridge into its slot.

    Inserting the cartridge

  4. Repeat steps to for any other ink cartridges indicated in the error message.

  5. Close the ink cartridge access door.

    Closing the cartridge cover

Thanks for your response.  This is not the solution.  I apologize  to for not stating in my troubleshooting steps that I had made sure the cartridges were correctly installed.

According to HP support, there are some sensors under the box which hold the 2 cartridges which are defective.  Unfortunately, given the printer's age (almost 10 years old), it will now be recycled.  A color laser printer will be taking it's place.
