False ink carriage jam message

HP OfficeJet Pro 8715

I am trying to make a copy of a document on my OfficeJet Pro 8715 printer and I keep getting the message "the ink carriage cannot move. Please remove any paper jam" (or something like that).  However the carriage is able to move and there is no jam.  What can I do to fix this?

False ink carriage jam message

@crazydadof4

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's try to reset the Printer here:

Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  1. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  6. NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  9. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Remove all the cartridges and reset the Printer too.

Also, let's update the Printer firmware: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

Let me know if this helps.

False ink carriage jam message

Spoiler
I did as you instructed, and the carriage jam message disappeared for a while, but then I got a message (after removing the ink cartridges) that two of the cartridges (yellow and magenta) were missing or damaged. I replaced the magenta one, but I didn't have another yellow one, and "the print cartridge cannot move" message came back.

Request you to replace the yellow ink cartridge and let us know if you still get the error message.

Thanks 🙂
