Solved!

Faulty cartridges

OFFICEJET 4630
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a officejet 4630 which works reasonably well normally. Recently the tri-colour was running low so I bought a replacement 301 cartridge. when the ink finally ran out, i put the replacement in, it came up with the message "the following cartridge(s) must be replaced". I thought that was strange but accepted there was a chance of damaged or failed cartridge, hence I bought another one. When i installed that, the same thing happened again. I put the empty back in and it doesnt come up as an error, although prints blank as has no ink. i have re-downloaded software, cleaned the heads, turn off and on numerous times as well as changing the cartridges around. is it likely that lightening struck twice and i got two dodgy cartridges? as the old empty doesnt come up as an error then i dont see it being an issue with the printer. all cartridges were from the same supplier. i would like to use the colour option, but not sure if it is worth trying to buy another one as it all adds up......

@AJ6119

Welcome to HP support community.

Clean the electrical contacts

  1. Turn the printer on.

  2. Open the door to access the ink cartridges.

  3. Wait until the carriage stops moving before you continue.

  4. Remove the ink cartridge indicated in the error message from its slot, holding it by its side.

       CAUTION:

Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

  5. Remove any protective tape that still might be on the contacts.

       CAUTION:

Do not touch or try to remove the copper electrical strip.

Remove the plastic tape and do not touch the contacts or ink nozzles

  6. Lightly dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water, and then clean only the copper-colored contacts on the ink cartridge.

  7. Lightly dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water, and then clean the electrical contacts in the carriage, located inside the printer.

    The carriage contacts

  8. Wait 10 minutes for the contacts to dry.

  9. Reinsert the ink cartridge.

    • Insert the black ink cartridge into the right slot.

    • Insert the tri-color ink cartridge into the left slot.

  10. Repeat these steps for the other ink cartridge, if necessary.

  11. Close the ink cartridge access door.

  12. If the error persists, repeat the previous steps to clean the ink cartridge and carriage contacts a second time.

  13. Check for the error message.

Solved!

Faulty cartridges

Hi,

No this did not help.

The fact that if i put in the old empty cartridge and it does not come up with an error leads me to believe that there is no hardware or software issue with the printer. what is your thoughts regarding this?

I threw the packaging for one new cartridge pack in the bin, however i still have the other. Its dated FEB 2021 and has the code MYPC 200800 190209 0153, not sure what this means?

cheers

Alan
