Envy 7640
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Started hearing a grinding sound when paper is loading from the tray.  Printer is about a year old and this just started a week or so ago after clearing a paper jam.   The sound is similar to a gear slipping or not completly engaged and does not occur on every sheet.

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Envy 7640 printer. I understand that you are getting grinding sound and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

Reset the printer.

  • Remove the power cable from the printer when it is turned on.
  • Press and hold the power button for 60secs.
  • Connect the power cable directly to the wall outlet and printer.

Clean the rollers from inside the printer.

Clean the ADF rollers and the separator pad (optional).

Print a Printer Status Report.

Click here and refer the solution provided for the similar issue on forum.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.

Will not be able to follow your instructions today but will certainly attempt to clean all the rollers and hidden mechanisms asap.

Thanks for the reply,

Sandytechy20,  I wish to thank you for providing links to "cleaning the rollers"!

After spending a very little time following the instructions and allowing 15 min. dry time,  my first print  was noisless!

Thank you for responding and providing me with a solution that "worked" the first time!
