HP 6978 intermittent print quality

Officejet Pro 6978
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Printer might print the first 1-3 or so pages perfectly and then either completely blank pages or will print what seems like all the colors but NO black ink from then on.  After the printer has been idle for a few days it will do the same thing, first few pages are perfect then nothing printed or no black ink for the rest of the day.  Document type does not matter, pdf, word, note, etc all the same results.  I have replaced the all ink cartridges with brand new HP verified cartridges several times and each time I get the same results.  I have cleaned the heads several times, aligned them several times.  All ink levels are good.  I have run the print Dr many times.  Printed many test pages that come out void of black ink every time.  I have updated the software and print drivers.  Turned the printer off, waited then restarted.  Nothing works to fix this so far.

HP 6978 intermittent print quality

@HIghW, Welcome to HP Support Community!

If you have already performed the steps from the document Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

Hope this helps!
