I followed the instructions for the HP 7740 located on page 131 of this manual to reset the printer to factory defaults.

Wheel Icon

Network Setup

Touch Restore Network settings

RESTORE NETWORK SETTINGS IS GRAYED OUT & LOCKED - "This feature has been locked by the person who set up the printer"

I set this printer up and don't recall locking it.  In any event all the reset / maintenance options for this printer are completely grayed out and does not allow me to reset the print to input my new router information.

Is there a hidden reset button somewhere I'm not seeing?  I unplugged this printer for a month hoping it would drain the memory but it did not.

Thank you.

Hi @David1388

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you. Performing a semi-full reset on the printer may resolve this issue.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

I’m having the same problem trying to help my grandparents restore the network settings on the printer. The option is greyed our and locked. We tried the reset steps by with the printer turned on, unplugging it from the printer than the wall, wait 15 seconds than plug back into the wall and back into the printer. Printer turned back on but still not able to reset network settings or restore the printer at all.
