HP ENVY 7640 product # E4W43A
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer + Cannot create or print custom size envelopes. Constant paper mismatch errors.

I'm using Windows 10 with Office 365. All software is up to date. The printer has the latest driver and firmware. The printer is setup as a network printer and fails regardless whether connection is via LAN or wireless. It also fails in the local printer mode.

Since, unfortunately, HP no longer supports this printer I hope someone can provide some help or advice.

I cannot create custom size envelopes - printer preference will not allow it even under the advance tab.

It was something I could do before - printed custom sized evelopes last XMas - not this year even though the evelopes are the same size.

Is anyone aware of a printer or driver that I could load that would give me the functionality to create custom size envelopes using the ENVY 7640? Several years ago when I was having issues with another HP printer, HP provided a different printer model driver to load as a workaround. Could this have been a universal ink-jet printer driver?

Any suggestion or work around will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to HP support community.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download and install printer full feature driver

I hope that helps.

Hello Sandytechy20,

Sorry for the delayed reply.

Followed your instructions, uninstalled and removed Device. Rebooted and reinstalled printer  full feature driver.  Printer still fails to print custom size envelopes. By the way , I tried this twice , no luck to getting working. the printer only prints factory loaded envelope sizes.

Do you have any other suggestions. Thanks for the Help.

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately the solution offered did not work. The Custom button does not appear on the Paper/Quality tab  nor can I access the Printer Sever properties  from Devices and Printers as I cannot select Run as administrator from the drop-down menu [does not appear]. The only way I can access the Printer Sever properties is with the printui.ex /s command. Unfortunately, even after I create a custom size envelope I cannot print it as it does not appear under custom sizes in Printer Properties, also under the Advance tab/ Paper Size  Custom Paper Size  is not listed.

Do you have any other suggestion?

This might require remote access of the computer to fix this issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for trying to help again with your latest suggestion.

Unfortunately I cannot get assistance from HP Support as it appears that the HP ENVY 7640e is no longer supported and my extended warranty has expired this past September.

Thanks again for the responses.
