HP ENVY5055
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My new printer is halfway through it's first ink cartridges.  Printing was fine until after I printed my first color photo (which turned out ok).  After that it will not print text from any source.  As you can see it prints the top of a line of text then some shadows - it's a mess.

This same exact thing happened on my old HP Printer and I spent two days exhausting every possible fix.  I fixed it by installing new ink cartridges but when they were half way gone it had the same problem as this new ENVY.  I finally threw the old printer away after it happened for a second time and bought the new ENVY.

Any idea what could be causing this?  If not I'm open to reccos of a different brand of printer.  Thanks.

@deanblakely Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are getting halfway through ink cartridges on the paper.

Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.

Please perform the hard reset and check for the issue.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

  9. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed

If the issue still persists, please update the firmware.
