HP Envy 7640 All in one printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have uninstalled and re-installed this about 16 times.  It doesn't work.  I have tried the HPPSdr program that is supposed to find and fix the problem, ran that at least 8 times.  I have cleaned the registry.  I have done the "repair system files" "SFC /scannow" and it returned nothing.  I don't know what else to do.  I cannot get this printer to work.  I can see it on the network, I can print a test page.  I can retrieve information (serial number, etc.) via the network, but I cannot get the software to install.  Please help.  I have also tried the "HP Smart" app, but it does not work either.

@jkrowland, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I see that you're unable to install the network printer on your computer, follow the steps below-

Add the printer using TCP/IP-

1.  Select “Start” and type “printers” in the search box.

2.  Choose “Printers & scanners“.

3.   elect “Add a printer or scanner“.

4.  Wait for the “The printer that I want isn’t listed” option to appear, then select it.

5.   Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname”, then select “Next“.

6.   select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list.

7.  Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next“. To find the IP address of the printer, touch the Wi-Fi icon on the printer's control panel.

8.  Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next“.

Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Install the printer by adding a new TCP/IP port

This worked for me.    I will continue to monitor the printer and report back if I loose it again.

The windows 10 updates did a number on this printer.

This is only a partial solution.  It allows me to print so long as the IP address does not change.  I can "FIX" the IP address at the printer and that would be solved, but I still cannot use the scan feature with this setup that you provided.  Why doesn't the software install correctly?
