HP Envy 5540

Every time I print, there is a "takeover" of my computer!  An HP button flashes in my icon tray at bottom.  If I right-click it, I can close it.  Otherwise, if I don't, it takes over full-screen in huge print and the only way I have found to close it is to click on the link http://www8.hp.com/us/en/hp-information/environment/product-recycling.html?jumpid=re_r138_eco_produc... so that I can access my icon tray to right-click and close it again!  How annoying!

What can I do?

Alright, this should stop the error:

  1. If the printer is connected to your PC through a USB cable, remove it.
  2. Close all programs you have open.
  3. In your search bar type in Printers and open Devices and Printers.
  4. Right-click on any icon of your printer listed.
  5. Click on Remove Device.
  6. Repeat for any other icon of your printer listed.
  7. If you removed the USB cable, connect it. If not, click on Add Printer and follow the prompts to add a new queue for your printer.

Please let me know if this resolves your issues. If you can prevent the popup, please click on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.

Hey @KathEyring,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums.

I see that you are having some issues with a pop up message on your computer. I can help you with that, however I am going to need to know the operating system on your computer first. Once I know that I will be better able to assist you.

Thank you!!

I have Windows 10 Home edition.

It's not just a little pop up, for sure and it looks authentic because the HP logo appears in my icon tray but it then goes full screen with really large font, as well.
