HP OfficeJet 3830 All-In-One Printer
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

When I choose print, the setting default checks the box next to "print in black & white" and even when I uncheck the box, it still prints in black & white. Unplugging and rebooting the printer does not help. Please advise. I need to get some work done and this is most unproductive. I am using wifi from a laptop running OSX 10.13.6. Thank you.

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you are unable to print in color from your Mac.

This could be a driver issue.

Uninstall and reinstall the printer driver and software

  1. Click Finder in the Dock.

  2. In the menu bar, click Go, click Applications, and then open the HP or Hewlett Packard folder.

    • If HP Uninstaller is in the folder, double click it to uninstall the software, and then skip to the step to prepare the printer for the driver installation.

    • If HP Uninstaller is not in the folder, continue to the next step.

  3. Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.

  4. In the menu bar, click Go, click Go to Folder, type /Library/Printers, and then click Go.

  5. Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.

  6. Right-click or Ctrl + click the Trash icon, and then select Empty Trash.

Add a printer using AirPrint

  1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

Figure : Example of the Printers & Scanners window

  2. Example of the Printers & Scanners window

  3. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign  to delete the printer, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

  4. Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.
  5. Figure : AirPrint displays in the Use menu
  6. Select AirPrint from the Use menu
  7. Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.
  8. Cheers.

After installing uncheck the "Black & White"  option in the printer settings as mentioned in this HP document:- Click here

Let me know if that helps.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.
