Very frustrated.  Have tried the options shown and seen many with same problems.  Did anyone resolve this?  I have spent too much money on ink now.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Are you able to copy in black?

The printhead could be clogged, and you might need to clean the printhead several times to restore print quality. Use an automated tool from the printer control panel to clean the printhead.

   CAUTION:

Never turn off the printer when ink cartridges are not installed. To avoid issues that require cleaning the printhead or that can damage the ink system, always replace ink cartridges as soon as possible, and always turn off the printer using the Power button.

  1. From the printer control panel, open the Setup  menu.

  2. Open the Printer Maintenance menu.

  3. If necessary, open the Tools menu, and then touch Clean Printhead.

    A test page prints.

Example of the printhead cleaning test page

  4. Examine the test page.

    • If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Clean Again to continue the next level of cleaning. If necessary, repeat these steps for the third cleaning cycle.

      NOTE:

If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform all three levels of cleaning again.

If the issue persists, please perform the remaining steps from this document: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-6950-all-in-one-printer-series/9666193/model/15129...

I have the same problem with printing black on my 6958 printer. The fix says to go to the printer control panel and clean the printhead. My printer does not have a settings option the panel to do so. either that or, I haven't found a way to get to it.

Thank you so much for responding.  I tried the recommended steps for resolution.  Unfortunately, they did not work.  Trashed that printer and 2 new 902XL inks.  Super frustrated.  Just ordered a new printer to end the madness.  But, I am thankful for the timely response.

I have the same issue. Wouldn't print black or cyan. Replaced both cartridges when neither were empty, and cyan works, but still no black. There is a lot of black ink on the ribbon cables below where the ink cartridges 'rest'. No amount of head cleaning is fixing this issue.

@vlawrence, Welcome to HP Support Community!

If you have already performed the steps from the document Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

Hope this helps!
