I've spent about two hours trying to figure out what's going on or to get in touch with someone who would know, needless to say my frustration level is maxed. I print my art prints from home so 11x14 business is at a standstill until this problem is figured out.

I have two print files - an 8x10 and an 11x14. I have 3 paper types - an 8x10, an identical 11x14 and a semi-glossy 11x14. Anything printed at the 11x14 paper size prints at low quality. Not blurry, just inaccurate color representation, especially in the red/brown family.

Troubleshooting so far:

  • Both files print at the 8x10 sized to fit and come out perfectly
  • Both files print at the 11x14 size (both papers) - poor quality
  • 8x10 file print to scale on the 11x14 paper - poor quality
  • Threw a totally new file in the mix just to see - 11x14 size, both papers - poor quality

Everything I've read online is to troubleshoot the printer in its entirety. The printer is fabulous. Ink levels are fine, paper is great, print files are equal quality.

My 8x10 prints have never looked better, so what is the deal with keeping everything the same except the size and the 11x14s come out looking embarrassing?

Hi @SaraOgles

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

I understand the print quality is not good while printing on a 11x14 inch size paper. Let us try these steps:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

Check the print settings on the app you are trying to print from.

Make sure the right paper type and paper size are selected. Also, check the print quality, set it to either BEST or NORMAL.

Refer to this document to know how to make print setting changes on a Win PC. (Print quality and improvement settings)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
