This is a brand new printer and it prints regular documents fine but will not print on photo paper. It jams every single time no matter which tray I try to print from. Did I get a printer incapable of printing on photo papers? Seems very unlikely but that is the case. Anyone had this issue?

Photo paper is supported in Tray 2

Yes, Tray 2 as main tray is counter intuitive.  Meh.

Could be the paper, the printer supports the HP Advanced Photo paper - not sure about others (have not tried).

Could be the way the paper is loaded into the printer.

User Guide > Load Paper - Page 23

Could be the quality setting (use "Normal" as opposed to "best") - sometimes the very best setting over compensates and ends up dumping too much ink - then the paper jams.  If the paper jams as soon as it loads into the printer, then this, of course, is not the cause of the jam.

Could be a missing setting.  The media type (kind of paper) must be selected correctly along with a compatible paper size.  Both printer AND software used to submit the job must know what kind of paper is used and the size of that paper.

Check / Adjust / Retain the Paper at the Printer Panel

Open Printer Tray,

If you have not yet done so, add desired paper type

Close Tray

IF applicable for your printer:

Look for a message on the Printer Control Panel,

Click Modify (wording varies), set the paper size and type, Click OK

NOTE:  If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down list, Select Custom

Set the Preferences - Windows

  1. The following assumes the Full Feature Software has been installed.
  2. Check / enable the printer as the “Default Printer”
  3. Select and adjust settings in each category for the Media (kind of paper), source (tray), and paper size.

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on your printer > Set as Default

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on your printer > Printing Preferences >

Tab Printing Shortcuts > Click / Highlight preferred shortcut > Click Apply > Click OK to exit

If the printer software supports the feature, change the settings as desired, then use “Save as” to create a Custom Shortcut.

OR

Windows key + S (search for) Printers and Scanners

Left-Click on (your) Printer > Manage >

Printing Preferences

Select a shortcut and / or set “preferred settings” for paper, source (tray), other settings

Optional (if / as available): Save As > enter a name for your custom shortcut

Click OK to save the preferences

Where to check / change / manage your printer

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to manage and configure your printer.

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper Management

Example

EWES - 9025 > Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper Management

9025_EWS_Preferences_Tray_and_Paper_Management_19025_EWS_Preferences_Tray_and_Paper_Management_1

and Advanced

9025_EWS_Preferences_Tray_and_Paper_Management_Advanced_19025_EWS_Preferences_Tray_and_Paper_Management_Advanced_1

Could be something else entirely.
