Officejet 4650 wireless
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Officejet 4650 all in one printer stopped printing in color when I got a new laptop with Windows 10. Worked with Windows 7.

Uninstalled and reinstalled through HP website. Printer preference doesn't even show color on the menu anymore.

Document on screen shows color but prints in black and white. This printer is only 3 years old and I'm so mad. Hey HP, can you fix this?

Update:  Now no menu on my desktop. Had to install the printer again. Just install new device, choose the printer already there and keep going. Now I can see the menu to print or scan and it prints in color. We'll see how long this lasts.

Hi @awzy

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the printing issue.

Let's try these steps -

1. In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".

2. Look for HP Printer software.

3. Right-click to uninstall.

4. In the search box, type and open “Devices and printers”.

5. In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.

6. Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7. Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).

8. Click on the "Drivers" tab.

9. Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.

10. Select Ok.

11. Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.

12. Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.

13. Restart the computer.

Try installing the printer using IP address -

1. Select “Start” and type “printers” in the search box.
2. Choose “Printers & scanners“.
3. Select “Add a printer or scanner“.
4. Wait for the “The printer that I want isn’t listed” option to appear, then select it.
5. Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname” , then select “Next“.
6. Select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list.
7. Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next“. To find the IP address of the printer, touch the Wi-Fi icon on the printer's control panel.
8. Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, Select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next“.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I already tried the uninstall/install. I haven't had time to try the IP address solution. I'm so fed up; many people are having this problem and we should not have to jump through hoops to get color printing out of a color printer, and a pretty new one at that.

I will let you know when I try installing with IP address. (My next printer is so NOT going to be HP)

@awzy

Please try adding the printer using the IP address. This should resolve the issue.

Thanks!

Now can't even uninstall, got this message:

Call to driverpackageuninstall returned error 5 for package

‘C:\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\hpwia_oj4650inf_amd64_570afff6bab00330\hpwia_oj4650.inf’: A caller of driverpackageinstall must be a member of the administrators group in install a driver package.

I am the administrator; no other users on this computer.

Is there a setting on the printer properties that might be off? two people use this printer.

Hi,

I'm also not able to deinstall the software, getting the same message. Could you please help me too?

@awzy: did the steps ASmita6658 sent help you?

Something magic has happened during the weekend... my printer is now using colours without changing anything.

I got an external DVD drive so I could reinstall with the original disc. However, now I can't uninstall because I get the error message: "call to driverpackageuninstall returned error5 for package......." and "must be a member of the administrators group....."  I'm the only Administrator here.

So, should I try to install from the disc? If so, how?

I kept trying to uninstall, with no luck. Then when I used the HP Scan Doctor, I was given the choice of downloading the Smart App or something like "all printer drivers." I chose the "all" and was able to print in color. Now that was once and I haven't tried it again, but maybe that was it. In the past, I did not see the choice - only Smart App was there and that certainly wasn't a good option to print from my computer.
