HP Officejet 5255 printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently purchased the HP OfficeJet 5255 printer, I thought I had everything set up and after the initial set up, I was able to print.  Ever since then, the printer shows offline.  I have followed the HP 'Dr' but it also says the printer is offline.  The printer shows it is connected to the same network as my computer.  Any advice out there for how to connect here?

Welcome to HP Forums,

To fix the printer offline issue, manually set the default printer.

Make sure the default printer driver matches the printer your trying to print to. To set your default printer in Windows 10, try the steps below:

  1. Search Windows for devices, and then click Printers & scanners from the list of results.

  2. If it is checked, uncheck the box beside Let Windows manage my default printer.

  3. From the list of printers, click the printer name that matches the name of your printer, and then click Manage. If there are multiple names listed, select the printer that has a status of idle or online.

    Clicking the Manage selection

  4. Under Manage your device, click Set as default.

    Clicking Set as default

  5. Try to print. If the printer remains offline, continue to the next step.

If issue persists, create a Manual Connection for Your Networked HP Printer and disable IPv6.

Follow the steps below:
Open the embedded web server (EWS)
(NOTE: To open the embedded web server through a network:
From the printer control panel, open the wireless settings and print the network configuration page.
Find out the IP address of the printer from the network configuration page.
In a supported web browser on your computer, type the IP address.
For example, if the IP address is 192.168.0.12, type the following address into a Web browser: http://192.168.0.12.)
Click the Network or Networking tab, and then open the section or page for your network type: wired or wireless.
Click Manual IP.
If you see a Suggest a Manual IP Address button, click Manual IP address, and the Manual IP addresses are automatically filled out for you.
If your page does not have a button to suggest a manual IP address, type the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway using the numbers shown in the report you printed.
Click Apply, and then wait until the changes are confirmed.
On the Network or Networking tab, and then open Network protocol under general
Select Enable IPv4 only (or similar)
Click Apply, and then wait until the changes are confirmed.
Restart the Printer.

Keep me posted.

Frustrated - Printer display says it's connected to my .2GEXT network (Arris Gateway) 192.168.0.12.  When I type this IP address into my pc browser, it tells me the 5200 Series all in one printer is connected.  Yet, the Control Panel Devices and Printers shows the HP OfficeJet 5200 series is default printer and status is offline.

I have tried to set manual IP addresses without success.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer.  The router DHCP server is enabled.

I can only get this printer to print if I connect via USB.  Where is the miscommunication between the printer, router/modem and my desktop pc?
