@george_bru,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues while printing in color from your HP OfficeJet printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Did you recently happened to replace the ink cartridges?

Have you tried to clean the ink cartridge contacts as well as clean the printhead?

Are you able to make a color copy from the printer?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

Let’s first try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.

Alternatively, you can also go through the steps suggested in the support document for - HP OfficeJet Pro 6900 Printers - Fixing Poor Print Quality

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

I still cannot get mine to print and I was having the same issue. I followed your steps exactly as suggested, and I did it twice.

I also replaced the cartridges, they are HP genuine cartridges, and they are showing proper ink levels on the control panel in the printer and when I access the printer information remotely.

I checked all settings on my actual computer to make sure nothing was selected in the printer preferences to print only in black and white.

Any suggestions?

What did you mean by cleaning the printhead level 2?

HP Recommended

@KeithCSpencer, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Cleaning the printhead twice is also called as level 2 cleaning. Follow the steps mentioned below:

  1. From the printer control panel, open the Setup  menu.

  2. Open the Printer Maintenance menu.

  3. If necessary, open the Tools menu, and then touch Clean Printhead.

  4. A test page prints.

  5. Examine the test page.

  6. If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Clean Again to continue the next level(level 2) of cleaning. If necessary, repeat these steps for the third cleaning cycle.

NOTE: If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform all three levels of cleaning again.
  7. If the print quality is acceptable, touch Done.

For more info on troubleshooting print quality issues, refer to this document.

Let me know how this goes.

I've done a hard reset as recommended below, cleaned printer heads, etc. Color was working before I changed cartridges, now it's not printing any color at all. Any other thoughts as to how to correct?
