Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi!  In the middle of a print job, the printer stopped and indicated a printhead problem with both printheads.  I'd already changed one several weeks ago but had a replacement for the other, so I replaced it and noticed a snag of paper caught  under the printhead carriage, which I removed.  When that didn't work, I removed both printheads and cleaned the contacts on each one.

I've disconnected the printer from the power source to reset the error message, but keep getting  error messages  for a printhead problem with one, the other, or both printheads.  Each time I turn off power and reseat or clean the printheads, the error message changes.

Are random problems with both printheads this the last gaps of a dying 15-year-old workhorse of a printer?  Or is there some troubleshooting step I've missed?  Thanks!

Hi @LaurieListens,

If you have already performed the steps from the document Error Indicates Faulty Ink CartridgeCartridge and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
