During a long print document (over 10 pages) the print area tends to "walk" to the right on the paper, eventually leaving the paper.

@R-A-S, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Does this issue occur when you make multiple photocopies?

Which application are you trying to print from?

Meanwhile, follow the steps below:

Update the printer firmware

The HP printer must connect to a wired (Ethernet) or wireless network with an active Internet connection to receive updates.

Check for the latest printer updates.

  1. From the home screen on the printer control panel, touch the ePrint icon ().

  2. Wait for the printer to connect to the ePrint server. The ePrint status displays.

  3. Touch Settings on the bottom left corner of the screen.

  4. Touch Printer Update, and then touch Check for Update Now.

Align the printhead

Use an automated tool to align the printhead.

  1. Load plain white paper into the input tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow () to display additional options.

  3. Touch Setup (), and then touch Tools.

  4. Touch Align Printhead. The printer prints an alignment page.

Try printing. If the issue persists, share the printed document that has issues for further isolation of the issue.

TEJ1602,

Thanks for your assistance.  Unfortunately, it did not solve the problem.  The printer indicated that it had the latest update installed.  The Print Alignment tool did not work.  It started and then stopped.  The screen said the Print Carriage cannot move.  I removed the paper from the pathway, pressed OK, then the printer continued for a little bit and then said the Alignment Unsuccessful.

Thanks again for our help.

Could you try removing and reinstalling the ink cartridges?

The error- print carriage cannot move! Are the cartridges stuck inside the printer?

Reset the printer-

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  9. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed

Keep me posted for further assistance.
