HP 1000 J110 series
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I recently bought a twin-pack of HP 61 Black ink only printer cartridges for my HP 1000 J110 series.  Before I had used the Tri-color twin pack, however, I wanted to use the all black one package instead since it is for a HP 61 printers.  I'm able to install the black ink in the right side of the printer cartridge mode, it's the other side I am having difficulty with the other black ink cartridge.  It simply will not go in!  By chance I had an old color cartridge and it slid in beautifully, yet my new black ink cartridge will not go in.  My question is can I use just the single black inkcatridge only and still print?  If so, how do I set it up.  Thank you for your help.

Hi WriteUpBiz,

You cannot install two black cartridges in the printer.  The slots are not designed for that.

I could find no documentation for printing with only one ink cartridge.

I did find steps for printing black only found here.

You could re-install your color cartridge next to the black - but set your printing to black only.  This way you would not be using color ink.

If you are getting an out of ink message from the color and it will not go away - you would have to replace the color but could still set the printing to black and just use if however infrequently you need it.

I'm sorry, this is probably not the solution you were hoping for - but it is all I know that will work.
