HP5230 - printing document that contains portrait and landscape pages but prints all as portrait

HP Officejet 5230
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recently purchased a HP5230 and I am trying to print a Word document that contains both portrait and landscape pages. Unfortunately the printer prints all the pages as portrait.

@JP20201 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the printer only prints portrait while the document that contains portrait and landscape pages.

Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.

Please let us know which type of document you are printing.

HP5230 - printing document that contains portrait and landscape pages but prints all as portrait

@JP20201

I understand your concerns.

The following steps can help you set up different orientations in the same document in Microsoft Word:

  1. Have cursor on page prior to the page you want to change print orientation
  2. On the Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click on down arrow by Breaks
  3. Click on Next Page under Section Breaks
  4. Cursor will automatically move to the next page
  5. Change orientation to desired mode in the Page Setup group
  6. On the last page you want to print in this mode, click the down arrow by Breaks and again choose Next Page
  7. Cursor will automatically move to the next page
  8. Change orientation to desired mode

As an example, you are starting in portrait mode of a 5 page document. At the bottom of page 1 you follow steps 1-5 above to print pages 2 and 3 in landscape mode.  With your cursor at the bottom of page 3 you follow steps 6-8 to change back to portrait mode to print pages 4 and 5.

Have a nice day!!

Hi,

Thanks for your input, however.

The document is already set up with the portrait and landscape pages. So you can see the changes in orientation as you leaf through the pages of the document. You can also see the orientation of the portrait and landscape pages in print preview. But when you print the document the printer prints all the pages as landsacpe.

I now have the solution. If anyone else is having this problem do the following.

Follow the steps below to remove and add the printer:
Press and hold the Windows + R key from the keyboard and enter "Control Printers". This will open the Devices and Printer's Window. Select your printer and click the "Remove Printer" option from the menu bar or by right-clicking on the printer's icon. Now, click on Add printer, it will search for available printer’s, but you must select "my printer is not listed". You must manually add the printer over the TCP/IP option. Select "Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname", click next. Under the Device Type select "TCP/IP Device". Enter the IP address (Tap on the wireless icon of the printer to see the IP address, it should be something like this 192.168.0.2) of the printer.

Please make sure you have "checked" the "Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use" option and then click Next. Follow the on-screen instructions to add the printer with the recommended driver and try printing.
