HP OfficeJet Pro 8740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

How do I reset HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 Embedded Web Server default username and password?

Also, what is the default username and password for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 Embedded Web Server?

No matter what I try -- I receive the following message:

"Incorrect User Name and Password

The user name and password entered are incorrect.

For greater security, the authentication session is locked. Try again later."

I have researched and have followed just about every instruction i could find and still I can not access the HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 Embedded Web Server.  I have reviewed the HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 User Guide and do not see anything regarding what the default username/password might be and/or how to reset it.

All the instructions posted in HPCommunity for any other printer did not work for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8740...  please help me.  Any help would be gratly appreciated.

Respectfully,

TOBIAS

Hi TOBIAS,

The default user is admin (all lower case) and there is no default password, any configured password was selected by you or by any other user of the printer.

If you cannot locate it, swipe down your finger from the top of the screen and tap the Setup (gear) icon.

Under Printer Maintenance select Restore and there select Restore Factory Defaults.

Confirm any prompt and the printer will restart.

ANy configured password will be removed, any printer settings such as Wireless or fax settings will be restored to default and need to be reconfigured.
