@Paul-P757 You may need to ensure both cartridges are compatible with your printer, and to find which ink or toner cartridges work with your HP printer, select your printer model in the tables listed below. HP ink and toner cartridges are labeled to help distinguish which cartridges work with selected printers. The ink or toner cartridges are listed according to where the printer was manufactured. Some printers use more than one cartridge.

I do have the correct cartridge. It is a C4480 and I bought the HP74 and HP75. The 75 works fine but the black HP74 says incompatible print cartridge. It is exactly like the one that was removed in every way shape and form. Frustrating that it does not recognize it. Why should I need to keep going back to exchange this when it is the same. Bought the printer in same location a few years back.

@Paul-P757 If you've already CLICKED HERE and followed all relevant steps, yet the issue persists, this could be a hardware malfunction and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

here's how private messages work: Click here for details.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.

Nope! you realize this has been no help at all and largely a waste of time. I will take the cartridge back and replace with another. If it does it again I will get my money back for the cartridge and throw out the printer. i will then buy a cannon to replace it. Thank you but I don't have time to mess with this process.

@Paul-P757 I do realize that, and that's why I tried to make this as simple as I could to help you out, however, considering this has been confirmed to be a hardware malfunction and there's nothing much we can do but to replace the cartridge or the printer if the cartridge doesn't work, I recommend contact the phone support as suggested previously, and they should be able to help you out.

I hope you have a better day, ahead.
