The smears won't show on my computer, only on the print

@NYTexan, Welcome to HP Support Community!

 

I see that you are experiencing print quality issues, I'd recommend you follow the steps from the document Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues to isolate and resolve the issue.

 

Also, Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

I tried all your recommended solutions, but none worked.  All diagnostic test pages come out perfect, I'm on my second set of cartridges and second different brand of paper.  Black and dark blue banners have ink smears on them.  Now, black print appears to be in gray scale.  I guess it's time for a new printer.

This looks like a hardware issue.

 

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.
