I have a 6255 printer. Warranty is up tomorrow. The cartridges will not stay in place.

Printer 6255. Cartridges will not stay in place. If I put in the new colored cartridge the black one frequently comes out. If I get them to both stay in place the colored cartridge comes out when it moves across for setup.

Hi @linrae1

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

  • Are you using HP genuine ink cartridges?
  • Check for any damages on the ink cartridges or the slots.

Kindly refer to this document to know how to insert ink cartridges in the printer.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

Check if the issue persists.
