I have a new Mac and my officejet pro 8600 scan option doesn't show up

I have a new Mac and uploaded my printer office jetpor 8600, I went to scan a document and followed the normal steps...system preference-printer/scanner-the scan button option doesn't appear. I've deleted and added several times, along with restarting the computer but still have no scan option button.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the scanning issue. 


To better assist you -


1.) What's the macOS version installed? 

2.) Are you able to print? 


While you respond to that, I'd suggest you try scanning using these steps -


1.) Place the document or photo print side down on the scanner glass, and then close the scanner lid.

2.) Open Finder , and then click Go in the top menu bar.

3.) Click Applications, and then double-click Image Capture.

4.) Click your printer name in the Devices or Shared list.

5.) Click Show Details at the bottom of the screen.

A preview of the scan displays, and then change any of the following settings: Format: Select the file type as PDF for the scan.

NOTE: To save multiple page documents or multiple images into a single file, select the PDF or TIFF format, and then select the box next to Combine into single document. This feature is only available with these formats.

6.) Click Scan.

If the issue still persists, try updating mac using these steps - How to update the software on your Mac
