HP Officejet 4630

I have replaced my black ink cartridge and received an error stating it needs to be replaced. I've done a lot of research to figure out the issue. I cleaned the inside of the printer and restarted it multiple times. I even turned it off for the night and turned it on the next day with the same message. I went out tonight and paid another 25$ for a black cartridge. Still the same error. I'm beginning to think it's the printer now. What can I do next?

@Westandy0, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I'm afraid this seems like an issue with the ink cartridge or the printer. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Make sure that the cartridges are compatible

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, perform solution three mentioned in this document.

Let me know how this goes.

Hello Kumar,

I have followed all steps provided and still no improvement with the printer. I still have the message. I have replaced the cartridge twice again as well. I was unable to update the firmware because I cannot bypass the error message. The issue is not resolved.

That's unfortunate. If the issue persists, please contact our HP Support team for Service Options as it could be a possible hardware issue:

This is either bug or HP people knows that this flaw occurs, may be it is done deliberately. So that customer has no choice but to purchase new printer from HP. No such issue occur with other printer makers. Why only HP??
