HP Officejet Pro 8600
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My printer is an HP Officejet 8600 Pro, Product #CM749A, Model #N911a.  I'm getting this error message: "The following cartridges are not intended for this printer - K."  I've purchased several ink cartridges from non-HP suppliers and did not experience this problem before.  The replacement cartridge I inserted has the number CN045AN and also has a z10 marking, followed by this statement: For use only in US and Canada.  The previous black ink cartridge has the number CNO45A on it and no "Z" marking.  Several attemtps to correct the problem following online instructions--disconnecting/re-connecting power cord; turning printer off/on; cleaning contacts; firmware/driver updates, etc: nothing worked.  I thought the firmware/driver updates would helpf.  However, due to my lack of technical knowledge, I don't know how to confirm that I have the latest firmware/driver updates and any that are to address this issue.  Other internet sources state HP has programmed the printer to not work except with HP-produced cartridges.  Any help on this is appreciated.

Welcome to HP support community.

Clean the ink cartridge contacts

  1. Turn the printer on.

  2. Open the door to access to the ink cartridges.

  3. Wait until the carriage stops moving before you continue.

  4. Push in on the front of the ink cartridge indicated in the error message, and then remove it.

  5. Wipe the electrical contact on the ink cartridge with a lint-free cloth.

  6. Insert the ink cartridge into its color-coded slot until it snaps into place.

  7. Repeat these steps for any other ink cartridges indicated in the error message.

  8. Close the ink cartridge access door.

Thanks, Sandytechy20,  Unfortunately, the "cleaning contacts " recommendation did not solve the problem.........RevMr.
