Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂

I understand that you need assistance to install your HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer on Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite. I'll be glad to assist you with this case.

During my research, I found that your HP printer is AirPrint compatible. Print and scan to a Mac without installing a driver by setting up the printer with Apple AirPrint. Most HP printers released in 2011 and later support AirPrint.

Are you trying to connect the printer wirelessly or via USB?

Meanwhile, during my research, you may add an AirPrint-compatible printer to a Mac desktop or laptop running OS X 10.7 and newer is a quick and easy way to print without installing a driver or downloading any software.

Use these steps to configure the printer to AirPrint from the Mac computer when it has an active internet connection via Wi-Fi, or to print directly to the AirPrint-compatible printer (without an internet connection) using Wireless Direct.

  1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

  2. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner window, go to the Frequently asked questions in this document to resolve connection issues, try to add the printer again, and then continue to the next step.

  3. Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu
  4. Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.

Please refer to "What if my wireless printer is not found when I try to print or add it to the Mac?" under "Frequently asked questions (FAQs)" if the printer cannot be added as Airprint: https://hp.care/2vekvly

I sincerely hope this information helps. Please feel free to let me know how it goes. I'll be glad to assist you.

Good luck! 🙂
