macOS 10.15 Catalina

Just installed CATALINA on my MAC and now unable to connect with HP 5530 printer. Is the problem related to yer new software?

@DCO1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer is compatible with macOS 10.15 and is also AirPrint enabled. If you are using HP Easy Scan, you might have issues while scanning as it is not yet compatible with macOS Catalina

For more info, refer to this document.

To resolve connectivity issues, let us try these steps:

  • Make sure the printer and the MAC are connected to the same wireless network.
  • This printer supports only 2.4GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
  • The wireless status menu on your Mac should also give us quite a lot of information that would help us identify the issue. You can press and hold the option key on your keyboard and click the WiFi icon to get detailed information.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on MAC

Check the connectivity between the printer and the MAC

  1. Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the Wireless icon on the printer
  2. On the MAC Go to Spotlight > search for Network utility > select Ping tab > enter the IP address of the printer in the box
  3. Check the second box that says Send only > 10 pings
  4. Click on ping > Check the results at the end if any packets are lost
  5. Note: There should be 0% packet loss, share the results in your next post.

If you have 0% loss, install the printer using AirPrint driver.

Let me know how this goes.

What model printer are you using?

Have you tried the troubleshooting steps mentioned in my previous post?

What were the results?

I have done everything except the ping thing and I really do not think I should have to do something like that >

I have updated software on my MAC that just became available for my printer.  I have restarted everything!

I have checked the IP addresses...should my MacBook Air and printer have different IP addresses?  Sorry not a techie!

@JulieB4

Yes, the MAC and the printer will have different IP addresses. By the PING test, we can confirm the connectivity between these devices.

HP Easy Scan is currently not fully compatible with macOS Catalina. We're actively working to restore complete functionality.

If you are trying to scan, use Apple Image Capture. Refer to this document for more info.

If you are trying to print from the MAC, install the printer using AirPrint driver.

Keep me posted.
