I switched to a new router with new network settings for security purposes.  Cannot set up wireless connection with HP Officejet Pro 6978 because it says:

"This feature has been locked by the person that set up the printer."

That goes for every feature under wireless setup.

How do I unlock those settings if it is not on a network or internet?

Can the printer be physically reset to factory settings and try again?  If so, how?

Don't worry, I'm here to help!

Let's try these steps -

Step 1 Network Restore -
1) From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).

A message appears stating that the network defaults will be restored.
4) Touch Yes

Step 2 Reboot the devices -
1) Turn off the Router, Printer, and the computer.
2) Wait for 60 seconds.
3) Turn on the Router first and wait for all the lights to stabilize.
4) Turn on the printer and allow it to configure itself.
5) Turn on the computer.

Step 3 Run Wireless Wizard -
1) From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Wireless).
2) Touch ( Settings ).

I discovered that not only my wireless settings, but all user controlled printer settings were locked. I contacted HP Support via chat and eventually did a semi/full reset of the printer. That resolved the issues and I am up and running.

Thank you for your response!

For those like me who don't know how to do a semi-full reset, I also called support and got the directions.

Looking at the LCD panel on the printer itself, there are three buttons on the left: a "home" icon, a "?" icon, and an "arrow" icon.

Press the arrow icon rapidly ~6 times until you see the screen that reads "Support Menu."  There should also be some scroll arrows next to the Support Menu words.

Scroll through the Support Menu options until you read "Resets Menu."  Press the OK button in the bottom right of the LCD screen.

Click the scroll arrows until you get to the "Semi-full reset" option.  Press the OK button in the bottom right of the LCD screen.  This reset will power off the printer, so you will need to turn it back on.

After turning the printer back on, you will be prompted to select language.  You have effectively reset the printer.  Follow the prompts and you will eventually be able to input a new wireless network.
