Missing of failed printhead

Example: Photosmart 7520
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have cleaned the printheads per HP instructions as well as trying a reset twice.  We bought HP reconditioned ink at Walmart and am wondering if this could be the problem.  Now, the instructions recommend buying and installing a new printhead and we do not want to spend $20 for a new ink cartridge only to find it isn't the solution.  Also, we are  considering if it is time for a new printer.  This one is between 12 - 15 years old,  Sure could use some guidance.  Thank you
