Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My 8500A Officejet Pro will not print unless I open and then close the cartridge door.  The screen says "Printing" until it self-cancels after time, unless I open and close the door.  It hasn't done this in the past, but is doing it now.  All the cartridges are authentic HP.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

It's a pleasure assisting you in finding answers to your technical queries.

I suggest you do a Hard Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue. (remove the cartridges)

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Update the firmware for the printer using this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8500a-e-all-in-one-printer-series-a910/408386...

Restart the printer.

Thank you, but it didn't work, although you didn't say when to put the cartridges back in, so I did it after I plugged the printer back in.  Was that correct?

Is it possible the waste ink storage is full?  I couldn't find how to access the storage tank.

Once the printer is turned on you installed the cartridges, that's correct.
