My HP6500A will not print

HP Officejet6500A
macOS 10.14 Mojave

I have unplugged the printer at the machine and at the wall, unplugged the USB cable, removed the print cartridges and yet I continue to receive a message that the printer is not connected.  Any suggestions as to what I can do to reestablish the connection?

Check if the printer is listed under the USB connected devices. Follow the steps below-

  1. From the Apple () menu, choose About This Mac.  
  2. Click System Report.
  3. Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB.

Also, try connecting it to a different port or use a different USB cable to connect the printer.
