I recently put new black ink in my printer and have been getting a message that the cartridge is not intended for use in this printer. I removed the cartridge and reinserted it, but received the same message. I purchased a new cartridge on HP's website that should be compatible with my printer, but still received the error message.

Since my product is out of warranty, I apparently cannot speak with someone in person. I chatted with a virtual assistant and followed their directions - downloading an HP firmware update and cleaning the cartridges - to no avail. How do I fix this issue?

Hi,

Please try unplugging the power from both the printer and the wall socket, allow it a minute and plug the power back, then check for any difference.

If the issue persists, what is the exact cartridge  number and what country are you from?

Hi Shlomil -

I tried unplugging and powering it back on and it still wont work.

It is an HP 61 ink cartridge (black). I'm from the USA.

Hi I have the same problem as above - as my printer is displaying the message "the indicated cartridges are not intended for use in this printer"  I have purchased these cartridges from an online HP supplier, so the cartridges are genuine.  Please can you help me restore my printer either partially or a full reset.  Thanks.

I suggest you remove the cartridges, clean the electrical contacts with a lint free cloth and perform a Power Reset on the printer

- Turn on the printer.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
- Disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the printer. If your printer has a network or wireless connection, leave it connected.
- Remove the ink cartridges from the printer and clean the contacts with a lint free cloth
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet or power strip.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to a wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
- Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door.

Next ensure the printer has the latest Firmware. You can refer to this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

Keep me posted how it goes
