Office Jet Pro 7740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I went to use the USB port on my new 7740 Office Jet Pro for the first time today. The USB port will not accept a USB drive or cable. The metal tab inside the USB port appears too wide to fit into a thumb drive or cable. Has anyone experienced this before?

Thanks!

@itsagaas, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Are you referring to the front USB port or the rear USB port?

The front USB port is used to connect to a USB thumb drive/flash drive. Whereas the rear is used to connect the printer to a PC using a USB cable.

Refer to the below pictures:

The USB cable used to connect the printer to the PC is as shown below:

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you Kumar0307.

It is the front USB port. It should be the same as the one on my recently replaced HP8500 printer. However, a USB drive and a USB cable will not plug in there. I believe the USB port is defective on this one week old printer and was not installed correctly at the factory.

There is a metal tab in the USB port that is too wide to fit into a USB drive.

I think I will call warranty support and maybe send them a photo.

Thank you.

@itsagaas

Kindly attach a photo of the USB port in your next post to assist you better. Make sure there is no protective plastic tab on the port.

Keep me posted.
