Thank you for replying,
As I understand you are trying to setup the printer, however this seems to be a pretty old printer. Unfortunately there are no options available.
In this scenario, I would suggest you contact our HP phone support for out of warranty service or possible upgrade options.
I will share you a private message with details. Please watch your inbox for more information.
Let me know if this helps!
Have a great day ahead! 🙂

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post you are getting an error message on your HP Photosmart printer. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.
To provide you with an accurate solution,I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?
Are you using genuine HP ink cartridges or refilled ink cartridges?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Please perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.
Next thing, i would suggest here is to follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Photosmart Printers and All-in-Ones - 'One time ink system initialization beginning, do not turn ...
Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.
Eagerly waiting for your response!

We are trying to setup the printer for the first time. Everything was in the box just never setup or used. When we tried to set it up with the setup cartridges in it we received a message telling us the setup cartridges were expired. I called HP hoping to purchase another set but they are no longer made or avaiable. Because of this we do not know how or if we can setup the printer for use.
