Dell laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The printer prints out 2 or 3 empty pages or maybe a line or two, then it may print out the actual page document.  One day the above error message appeared on the screen on the printer.  OfficeJet 3830

Thanks for any help.  If it is a download problem, I need the ONE link to download as HP usually goes to a page with numerous links.  Unless it is one link to solve it, I won't guess on a page with multiple links.

Hi @cj1000

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Have you tried making a copy and check if the issue persists?

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi, Thanks for your help.   I followed  the plug/unplug process.  Then I installed the new HP Doctor.  After installation, it said the HP Doctor could not access or correct scan problems.  I forget the wording.  I tried a simple print.  It does print out 10 pages regardless of the error message.  However, I am seriously thinking of buying a new printer once I finish this ink.  I have had nothing but problems from when I first got the printer and I've had to use HP Doctor multiple times.  The reason I did not do the uninstall/install is because I'm not sure if I would do it correctly.  Since it is working enough for my purposes, I'm leaving well enough alone.  Thanks for your help. Incidentally, I will say why I did not unplug it earlier was somewhere during my multiplesearches for answers it said to not shut down the printer without shutting it down first as it would injure the printer...not sure where I read that.  So I had never recently, at least since reading that, done the unplug/replug step.  Thanks for your help.  Solved...sort of...for now.

While resetting the printer, it is okay to remove the power cable from the printer while it is powered on. Glad to know that you are able to print now. Feel free to contact us for any other assistance.
