Office Jet Pro 7740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I have an Office Jet Pro 7740 that is not printing or copying. It does scan though. It is connected wirelessly and has worked fine up until yesterday afternoon. I've reset the printer and computer numerous times, uninstalled and reinstalled the device and drivers, basically everything the troubleshooter and virtual assistant said to do.

When I send a print command I can hear the printer make noise like it is initiating the print but then it stops and the printer status screen says "printing" but doesn't print. I've also tried printing details directly from the printers control panel like network connections but it won't print that either.

I do have office depot ink cartridges installed but they have never been a problem before.

I'm desperately in need of my print and copy function to run my business today so thanks for any help in advance...

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Reset the printer to clear certain error states, and then check the power source to make sure the printer is getting enough power to operate the copier.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer, disconnect the power cord from the power source, and then wait 30 seconds.

  2. If you are using a power strip or multi-plug adapter, connect the cord directly to a wall outlet to ensure the printer is getting enough power.

  3. Reconnect the power cord to the printer, and then try making a copy.

    • If the issue persists, connect the printer to a different wall outlet to determine if the original outlet is causing the issue.

    • If the issue persists using a different wall outlet.

Thank you for your reply, but no this did not resolve the problem. I just realized this device was just 2 weeks out of warranty when it stopped working. And the backup (Officejet Pro 8600) that I borrowed 2 weeks ago just died as well.

Any other thoughts?

Let's try further steps here: Partially lift the scanner lid, and then press the Copy button or icon. If the scanner light does not illuminate or move across the glass, it could be a hardware issue.

Let us know.

I partially lifted the lid and initiated a copy; the light came on and scanned across the glass. The scan function does work by the way. It just won't print or print a copy.

Are you able to copy from the Feeder?

Let's reset the Printer.
