Hi -  issue  on macOS High Sierra 10.13.6.

It prints fine, but when I go to scan, it cannot detect my computer.  However, if I use the scanner through the HP Utility on my computer, I CAN scan that way.  It's odd that I can use the UP Utility to scan, but using the touchscreen on the printer itself no longer works.  This is problematic, as I scan documents with multiple pages to combine into one document, and not being able to use the touchscreen means I need to walk back to my computer for every single page.

Was there a recent firmware update that might have caused this?  Seems like a lot of people are having this problem suddenly.

Happy Thanksgiving!

@DaveB_LP, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I understand you'd want to scan to computer from the printer-

I understand you want to scan to computer from the printer, but are you able to scan from the computer? Is scan to computer enabled on your computer?

Try following the steps below-

Open the HP Utility Folder and go to Scan to Computer

Try Scanning.

Let me know the outcome.

Thanks for the reply.

Scan to Computer was already enabled, I just confirmed.

Basically what happens is that I'll go to scan from the printer, my computer will come up as an option, I'll select it, and it will start "accessing" until it times out.

Both printer and computer are on the same WiFi network as well.

Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. For more information, go to Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware.

If you have any security software installed, disable and try scanning.

Also, try restarting the devices. Follow the steps in sequence-

  1. Turn the printer off, and then wait 10 seconds.
  2. Disconnect the printer power cord from the printer.
  3. Turn off the computer or the device you are trying to print from.
  4. Connect the printer power cord to the printer, and then turn on the printer.
  5. Disconnect the power cord from your wireless router, and then wait 10 seconds.
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the router. Wait until Internet service is restored. Internet service is interrupted while the router is off.
  7. Turn on the computer.

Try scanning once the connection is restored.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
