New to me (owned by our college) 8500 A909a gives :"alignment failed -- refer to documentation" error message.  Device has had new HP brand cyan, magenta, & yellow carts installed.  Printer consistently fails alignment align, & does not print at all -- no results except but blank sheets of paper.  I have run the full extent of clean print head; calibrate line feed; align print head; from start to finish 3 times with no result.    Should I attempt a reset to factory defaults, or is there possibly another solution to try?     Thanks much!

@bnichols23, Welcome to HP Support Community!

If you have already followed steps from the document HP Officejet Pro 8500A (A910) e-All-in-One Series Printer - 'Alignment failed' Error Message Display... and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

Hope this helps!

Thanks.  Had considered that from the off, & as a matter of fact it's been a core element of my thought process.  Having dropped $160 on new carts already & with the probability of another $160 for new print heads before we can even have even a 50/50 chance of determining whether or not the printer is viable, then likely another mid-3-digits for repair, the likely total expense would well exceed reasonable financial sense.

I'm having our IT dept. assess, & if additional $ for new print heads don't look to make a reasonable chance of turning it functional, I'll cut my supply budget losses at the $160 we've already poured down.
