@torbau, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

I would suggest you try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and Printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

Let me know how this goes.

Ran Print and Scan Doctor 5.0.5 numerous times and the printing part worked ok although it said it had corrected some problems.

There are three listings in scan doctor for my 3830 printer (all shown as (network)

One is shown as scan only and it says do not delete. Why are there three instances shown?

If I try to do the scan test it doesn't work and it comes back with device manager error.

Since I can't get past this point I have not tried the windows driver option.

If you are able to print but not scan, install HP smart app to scan from your PC

Click here to download and know more about the app.

HP print and scan doctor is a diagnostics tool that can fetch past instances of printer installation. This is the reason you see multiple instances of the printer.

Keep me posted.

Well I can scan from the printer software and everything works except being able to change the print preferences. So I may leave it as it is.

I tried to use the windows driver but it asked for the WPS pin and it did not like the pins that I tried. Where do I find the WPS Pin.

I have found this printer to be almost impossible to work with and have wasted a lot of ink trying to get it working properly. Why is everything sooo difficult?

@torbau

If you are asked for a WPS PIN during setup, refer to this document. If you are still having issues, I would recommend you contact Hp Support team for one on one interaction so that all the issues regarding the printer is taken care of.

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.

6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

I tried to use this and they took control of my computer and tried to resolve the issue but couldn't and told me to use the paid service since the problem could be with the computer?? I am disappointed that I need to go to a paid service to resolve an issue to make the printer work.
