Officejet 5740 stuck on PAUSE - won't print from MacBook

HP Officejet 5740
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Hello all -

On my Macbook Pro when I try and print the driver says "paused" then when I go to the print utility to resume print a pop up window appears "The Printer Has Been Paused. Do you want to resume printing?" -- I click "RESUME" then a new Pop Up window appears and states: "TextEdit is trying to use the printer -- Enter the name and password of a user in the 'Print Operator' group to allow this". (Print Operator???) -- Anyhoo, no password works, and no resume printing ever works. -- I'm stuck. Any ideas, tips, guidance would be appreciated. - Thx, Geoff

Officejet 5740 stuck on PAUSE - won't print from MacBook

@geoffdude, Welcome to HP Support Community!

This could be an issue with the driver installed or the application that you're trying to print from. Follow the steps below-

ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with its software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer firmware and Mac software:

Update printer firmware

Update software on Mac

Remove and add the printer

Click the Apple menu, and then select System Preferences.

Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.

Click the name of your printer, click the Minus sign, and then delete the printer.

Select printer and click the minus sign

Click the Plus sign, and then click Add Printer or Scanner.

Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select AirPrint

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

Click Add to add the printer to the list.

Try to print.

If the issue persists, let me know the application that you 're trying to print from. Also, try scanning and see if that works fine!

Keep me posted for further assistance.
