Officejet 8500 showing no ink left after new 940XL genuine HP ink installed

I have noticed many discussions about brand new genuine HP ink cartridges (940XL) being inserted into HP officejet 8500 and still showing empty ink!

I've done this twice and it is not a cheap exercise. Has anyone ever been given a proper solution to this yet?

 

Or bin the printer and go with something other than HP, because this is just frustrating!
