Officejet Pro 8600 Plus no longer printing

HP Pavilion Elite HPE
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

8600 has worked fine on a wired network for quite a few years without a problem. I have had a few broadband issues recently (supplier) and haven't used my printer for a little while (a month or so) - I still am with the same provider, using the same router (BT Home Hub 5). I tried recently and the printer no longer seems to be printing. It appears to be online, but does not print. I removed the printer and tried to reinstall it, but it no longer seems to be recognized on the LAN (shows as offline, even if the printer status says connected). I also tried to reinstall on my laptop (that runs Win 8.1, same issue, I cannot print either, wired or wirelessly). I have managed to get a connection on my laptop via USB (but that's about it). I would like to be able to print, primarily wired from my main PC, as I used to (then hopefully wirelessly from my laptop). Any idea ? Thank you.

Hi @ZooropaUK

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

To connect the printer to the wireless network, let us try these steps:

Restart the router, the printer, and the PC

ON the printer screen, go to Setup > Network > Restore network defaults

Go back to Network > Wireless > Wireless setup wizard and select your network.

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network.
  • This printer supports only 2.4GHz network. So, the PC should be on the 2.4GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.

Use the HP Smart app to print and scan from your Win PC

Click here to download and know more about the app.

To connect the printer via an ethernet cable, follow the steps mentioned in this document.

Make sure the cable is working fine. Check if a firewall/anti-virus is blocking the printer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I will look at this over the weekend / as soon as I get a chance and update you. But I had a quick look at your document re. wired printers. I already tried to reinstall everything, it did not work. I am on the correct network (it hasn't changed), there was no change of provider, router etc .... But I think I managed to get it working when plugging it in via USB, but wired it is no longer recognized on the network. I'll take a look at your post in more detail, maybe try the wireless option (but ideally I wanted wired !). Note I am on Win7 Home, not win 10. But I have exactly the same issues with my laptop (on Win 8.1), so not an OS issue ....

@ZooropaUK

Try those steps and also try using an alternative ethernet cable and check if that helps. Change the ports on the router and check.

Also, try connecting the ethernet cable to a laptop and check if it works. By this, we can conclude that the cable and the ethernet port on the router are working fine. It can be an issue with the ethernet port of the printer.

Let me know how this goes.
