HP Officejet Pro 8630
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Hi there - my officejet pro recently started printing thin horizontal lines spaced approx 1" apart (it looks like a darker version of whatever color it runs over - maybe an overlap?) when I print on any type of media. For years prior it had not done this, this is a new problem.

I ran the print quality diagnostic page, and then based on the results, I ran the "calibrate linefeed" function. This did not do anything to help with the problem.

Has anyone had a similar experience and can you offer any suggestions?

Thank you!

@Sullypux, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Try making a standalone copy and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Does the print diagnostic page have the same issue?

Which application are you trying to print from?

Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word or Webpages and check if the issue persists?

For now, let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Update the printer firmware

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on MAC

Clean the printhead

  1. On the printer control panel, swipe the display to scroll to Setup, and then touch the Setup icon (). The Setup menu displays.

  2. Swipe the display to scroll to Tools, and then touch Tools.

  3. Touch Clean Printhead.

Let me know how this goes.

Hi there - thank you for your help. I've run through your suggestions/steps and I'm still seeing the horizontal lines. They appear both when I make a copy or print something out.

One thing I noticed randomly - when I printed a cmyk photograph - the horizontal lines are darker than the photo itself... but when I printed something that was almost entirely light blue (so I'm guessing primarily using the cyan ink?) - the line appears almost white... wondering if that is meaningful?

Thank you in advance for any other ideas you might have -

Hi again - ignore my idea about the lines being darker for a photo vs lighter when I printed only light blue - I've done more test prints and the lines vary from being darker to lighter, I don't see a pattern.

My warranty expired about 10 months ago - what options do I have for getting help with my printer's hardware issues?

Thank you!

@Sullypux

Since this is a hardware issue with either the ink cartridges/printhead or the printer, HP Support team will be able to assist you better and let you know what are the options available for an Out of warranty printer.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
