How can I tell old generation ink cartridges from new ones?  I have an HP Photosmart Premium All in One C410a.  I know I need the old generation 564 ink cartridges.  Is there information on the box that will tell me which generation the

The "old generation" 564 cartridges were last made in ~ October 2011 and have not been available for years.  Any cartridges with an expiration date of late 2013 or later would be the new generation.

Printers that used the old generation cartridges will also accept the new generation cartridges.  Your Photosmart Premium c410a should be able to use the newer generation cartridges just fine.  Note the reverse is not true - printers designed to use the newer generation cartridges will not work with the old generation cartridges.
