Solved!

Out of marker supply message.

OFFICE JET PRO 8710
Linux

I just purchased this printer and so far have successfully printed about 15 copies wirelessly. However when I pushed "print" on all of these copies, a small box appeared in the top right side of my screen. It read "This copy is out of a marker supply". What does this mean and should I be doing something to fix this? Will this have a negative effect on anything. Thanks.

@patrick66

This is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are getting “this copy is out of a marker supply” error message. I would like to help you resolve this issue.

Reset the printer.

  • Remove the power cable from the printer when it is turned on.
  • Press and hold the power button for 60secs.
  • Connect the power cable directly to the wall outlet and printer.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.

Thanks for your reply. I followed your instructions precisely and it didin't help. I'm an old fart and don't know a lot about computer stuff. In your fix it solutions line 2 something seems odd to me. You say to hold the power button in for 60 seconds. Just curious, how is that going to help if I've just removed the power cord? Did I misunderstand something and did it wrong? If not, do you have any other ideas? Thanks again.

Patrick

Thanks for the reply.

If you press and hold the power button for 60secs.

It will drain the static charge in the printer.

And sometimes it may fix the issue.

Cheers.

I tried both of the solutions on the Community Page, but my printer still shows "marker supply low."  Any suggestions?

@jasminecrane

I'll be glad to assist you with this, to provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Where do you see the error message?

Did you try with a different ink cartridge?

Could you please help me with the exact model name or the product number of the printer and the operating system of the computer?

Keep me posted.

Thank you for joining the HP Community.

Have a great day!

Cheers 🙂

I have a "marker supply low" message on the Supplies tab.  The printer is an Officejet Pro 7720.  I'm running MacOS/Catalina (10.15).

Do you have adequate amount of ink left in all the cartridges?

Try these steps and check if they help

- Turn on the printer.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
- Disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the printer. If your printer has a network or wireless connection, leave it connected.
- Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet or power strip.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to a wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
- Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door.

Also check for Firmware update. You can refer to this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168
