Paper Mismatch issue

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus

The printer went into alignment mode, and after a bit i got the message that "paper detected does not match paper size or type selected".  Since I didn't specify a paper size or type, I'm not sure what to do next.  I suspect there's a step i'm missing, but i can't figure out what to do to fix this.  The paper is regular 8.5x11 copy paper.

Reset the printer

Reset the printer to clear any hardware issues or error states.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

  3. Wait 60 seconds.

  4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.


    HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

  5. Turn the printer on.

Also, Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. For more information, go to Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware.

Does the error message appear on the printer or the computer?

What is the Operating System installed on your computer?
